Nit Wits #23 ("Pumpkasso") was my simple rendering of the popular orange gourd known as the pumpkin. When you look at objects in nature in their most basic forms, it's easy to capture their essence without adding too much detail. In the case of a pumpkin, you have your circular body, a stem, and the vertical lines that give it character.

Of course, you can challenge yourself further by creating a face on your pumpkin ala Halloween-style. But remember, these days a simple Jack-O-Lantern carving is child's play.

Draw your own pumpkin by following my step-by-step drawing lesson #11.

Drawing Tip: Improvise with your own version of a circle: pumpkins are distinct by their imperfections and varied round-shapes (tall and narrow, short and squat) and sizes.
